Ever come across the message “Cannot delete the file as it is in use by another program” ? Yep, thats damn irritating alright especially when your system gets stuck due to a particular program or there is a virus which made itself home on the file. As always, fear not fellow geeks as for every problem there is a solution.

Normally, people tend to simply press the restart button on the CPU to get rid of the annoyance. This could affect your SMPS if you live in a power fluctuated flat.
Now for the solution part, download the free software called Unlocker from here.
The next time you want to delete a file that is in use, right click the file and you will see the option called ‘Unlocker’.

Click it and the following dialog box should appear.

This dialog box shows you all the applications that uses the particular file you are about to delete. In the ‘No action’ area portrayed above, choose the delete option and select the particular application. Click the ‘Unlock’ button and voila! The file is deleted.
A word of caution: Please do not delete files that may be of prime importance for the optimal functioning of the system.
