Guess who’s in queue for a bite of the juicy multi-billion-dollar search pie? If rumours are to be believed, Apple is working on a search engine of sorts. The firm already has 6 to 7% market share in the browser space from Safari, along with a search function on both the iPhone and iPod. All that traffic and usage amounts to a load of searches, which are waiting to be monetised profitably. So, yes, there’s plenty of real estate to play around with.

The search space is already crowded with Google, Microsoft and Yahoo! But Apple, always one to break loose from the pack, is planning to bump up the searching experience by making it much more visual. Very likely the engines will still be powered by Google results, but Apple may present it in a way that suits mobile users much better.
