Okay, I am sick of this. For the past one week, I have been getting Windows Genuine Advantage Notifications which is really irritating especially the part about not having a proper wallpaper. A black blank screen is what greets me. Anyway, I have found out some permanent and temporary solutions to this problem.

1st Method:

♦ Open Windows Task Manager.

♦ End the wgatray.exe under the processes tab.

♦ Restart your Windows XP in the safe mode.

♦ Navigate to C:\Windows\System32 and Delete Wgatray.exe

♦ Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\dllcache.

♦ Next, Click Start > Run > Regedit.

♦ Goto HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\

    Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify

♦ Delete WGALogon Folder.

♦ Restart Windows XP.

Note: In this method, there are chances of WGA being updated again due to Windows updates and you can follow the same steps to disable it again.

Permanent Method

I finally hit upon something useful. Mydigitallife.info has an excellant post on removing the Windows Genuine Advantage Notifications. Click Here to Follow on.

The Official Method

Microsoft has released a set of instructions for those who want to disable the WGA notifications. This is for the lazy bums sitting in front of their computer, well atleast for the disabling part. Check out the post on MyDigitalLife.

There are loads of other methods too. Just Google ‘How To Disable Windows Genuine Advantage Notifications’ to get them and find a method that suits you best. There are also sites that offer CD keys and cracks/serials to this problem most of which are outdated or confiscated by Microsoft.

If you are curious, I am a lazy bum too.
